Visual poi performance and production collaboration as back dancers for Kiyoshi Hikawa at the 66th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen.

〜 Largest-Ever Visual Poi Performance with 14 Performers at the Time 〜

At the 66th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen, Japan’s most prestigious year-end music show, visual poi performance was featured in the stage production of "Otokobana" by Kiyoshi Hikawa.
Yuta, director of Poi Lab, played a central role in the creative and technical direction of the visual poi choreography and production.

With 14 performers, this visual poi presentation was the largest of its kind at that time. It stood out as a rare and remarkable example of cutting-edge tech performance within Kohaku's long history.

Creative Leadership & Technical Innovation

At the time, there was no ready-made system for large-scale synchronized visual poi performances.
While developing the show, Yuta actively collaborated with Lighttoys (the visual poi manufacturer), reporting software bugs, proposing graphic rendering fixes, and contributing to real-time improvements in the hardware and software systems.
In addition to being the lead choreographer and director, Yuta acted as a technical coordinator, ensuring smooth integration of the evolving technology into the performance.

After an intensive rehearsal period with performers and support staff who gathered from across Japan, this large-scale project marked a major milestone for Poi Lab — our first major broadcast production brought to successful completion.
